Pro-Abortion Group Attacks Personhood Legislation

March 26, 2009 – A pro-abortion group called National Advocates for Pregnant Women is masquerading as a "pregnant women's" advocacy group. It is fighting against passage of personhood legislation at the state level. The good guys in this are leaders of the Personhood USA organization, which is helping get these personhood bills passed. A typical personhood bill states that an unborn baby is a person from the moment of conception and deserves protection.

The National Advocates for Pregnant Women, (NAPW) claims to care about pregnant women's rights. This group has defended the alleged "rights" of crack-addicted mothers who endanger their unborn baby's health, however, you would never know this from their deceptive promotional video.

The organization was established with the help of the late Gloria C. Knighton. She had formerly been with the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project and also helped found the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy. Both of these groups are militantly pro-abortion.

The NAPW has an extremist agenda that defends drug-addicted women from prosecutions for endangering their unborn babies. Long-time head of NAPW is Lynn Paltrow. She appeared on "The O'Reilly Factor" in June of 2002. When asked if she thought a heroin-addicted mother was worthy to be pregnant, she answered, "I don't know, it depends on the woman. I will not judge."

Corinne Carey, JD, a board member of NAPW is a former employee of the George Soros Open Society Institute (OSI). This Soros group supports drug legalization and unrestricted abortion on demand. She has been involved in pushing for needle-exchange programs and is a lawyer for the New York American Civil Liberties Union.

Another board member is Carol Mason, who has written a book attacking the pro-life movement titled, Killing for Life: The Apocalyptic Narrative of Pro-Life Politics.

It is clear why the NAPW opposes the Personhood USA agenda. The NAPW is really not concerned about pregnant women. It is concerned about defending abortion even to the point of supporting crack-addicted mothers who are addicting their unborn babies and subjecting them to extreme risks of mental retardation or death.
